Shop/Glazes/Iron red

Iron red.

A rich, expressive red with a depth that shifts with the light: deep brown-red where it gathers, warmer where it thins over the rim. The everyday dishes and the Red Bottle wear it. Bold enough to stand on a shelf, simple enough to use every day.

The Red Everyday Dish

The story

Red from iron.

Iron reds get their color from iron in the glaze rather than an added stain, and the color only comes out at high temperature. Adam fires this one to cone 10, the same as all of his stoneware, so the dishes are dense and made for daily use.

Where the glaze runs thicker it goes darker and glossier; where it breaks over an edge it shows the clay underneath. Every piece in the shop is photographed as it came out of the kiln.
